About the author: Born in a pioneer cabin on a southern Minnesota farm in 1867, George Lester Denman attended the public schools of Minnesota and Washington, colleges in Washington, and served in the schools of that state for thirty-three years--as teacher, principal and superintendent. For a decade he was a member of the Washington State Legislature representing Spokane and Stevens Counties. Now Semi-retired, Mr. Denman is engaged in horticulture and research. His chief interest is in the growing of choice fruit and nut trees from seeds gathered from foreign lands. In order to further the advance of American tree culture. He has contributed his findings to the reports of the Northern Nut Growers Association.
